CBA is a selective blocker of TRPM4 channels (IC50 = 1.5 µM), with no activity at related TRP channels or other ion channels. It has demonstrated neuroprotective effects in models of glutamate-induced neuronal degeneration and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, a model of multiple sclerosis. By modulating TRPM4 activity, CBA provides a valuable tool for investigating calcium-independent cation flux in neurons and glial cells, and its role in neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. Its specificity and in vivo efficacy make it a promising candidate for therapeutic exploration in CNS disorders.
