Compound Overview
ChloraMine-T hydrate, also known as Sodium chloro(4-methylbenzenesulfonyl)azanide hydrate, is used as a reagent in various synthetic processes, including aminohydroxylation and allylic amination reactions, as a nitrogen source in aziridination reactions of alkenes, and for deprotection of sulfur groups in sulfur-containing compounds; it has also been used in the synthesis of factor Xa inhibitors. At 0.2% w/v it additionally acts as an antimicrobial agent effective against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis and Enterococcus cloacae. It is supplied as a white to off-white solid at 98.18% purity.
