Compound Overview
Chol-PEG is an amphiphilic cholesterol-polyethylene glycol conjugate that also functions as a surface modifier for liposome-like vesicles. Once incorporated into such vesicles, it builds a hydrophilic barrier on their surface, thickens the bound water layer surrounding them, and speeds the release of encapsulated compounds. It can be used as a modifier in preparing nonionic surfactant (liposome-like) vesicles for drug delivery[1]. It has the molecular formula C29H50O2.

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and not for human or veterinary use. Handle in accordance with your institution's chemical hygiene plan.
In Vitro
Chol-PEG can form Chol-PEGm, and this is used to modify vesicles loaded with nimodipine. A higher PEG molecular weight gives larger vesicles, lower zeta potential, and higher FALT, and nimodipine is released faster. Vesicles modified with Chol-PEG10,000 give the highest cumulative release within 24 h, reaching 43.86%[1].
