Cycloheximide is a selective inhibitor of eukaryotic protein synthesis that blocks tRNA binding and release from ribosomes. It is widely used in neuroscience to study protein turnover, synaptic plasticity, and apoptosis. Cycloheximide-induced inhibition of translation provides insights into the role of de novo protein synthesis in memory formation and neurodegeneration.
