Difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) is an irreversible inhibitor of ornithine decarboxylase, a key enzyme in polyamine biosynthesis. While primarily studied for its anti-cancer, anti-parasitic, and anti-angiogenic properties, DFMO has emerging relevance in neurodegenerative disease research. Polyamines are implicated in neuronal growth, differentiation, and synaptic plasticity, but their dysregulation contributes to neurotoxicity and oxidative stress.
