Bacterial topoisomerase IV (the ParC-ParE complex) is a type II topoisomerase. It unlinks (decatenates) interlinked daughter DNA molecules at the end of DNA replication, and it also relaxes supercoiled DNA.
Some inhibitors, such as fluoroquinolones, block the DNA rejoining step of type II topoisomerases; the cut DNA then stays bound to the enzyme as a covalent cleavage complex.
This product is the ParC subunit of E. coli topoisomerase IV. Topoisomerase IV is active as a heterotetramer of two subunit types, so ParC alone has no decatenation activity; combine it with ParE (E. coli ParE, BHP16300039) to reconstitute the active enzyme. The topoisomerase IV holoenzyme is also sold separately as E. coli DNA Topoisomerase IV, BHP16300040.
