Scientific Background
Sudan Virus (SUDV, formerly Sudan Ebola virus) is a member of the Ebolavirus genus classified as a BSL-4 pathogen. SUDV causes hemorrhagic fever with case fatality rates of 40–65%. Critically, antibodies and vaccines developed against Zaire EBOV (EBOV) typically show limited cross-protection against SUDV due to divergence in the viral glycoprotein (GP). The 2022 SUDV outbreak in Uganda highlighted the urgent need for SUDV-specific countermeasures and safe research tools for studying SUDV entry.
Product Description
Filovirus
This HA-SUDV VLP is a hybrid alpha-pseudovirus assembled from Sudan Virus structural proteins (GP, VP40, NP) with an alphavirus-derived reporter RNA payload. BSL-2 safe. Available with Firefly luciferase, GFP, or RFP reporter.

Safety & Handling
Sudan Virus is antigenically distinct from Zaire Ebola virus — EBOV-targeted antibodies and vaccines generally do not cross-neutralize SUDV. SUDV-specific pseudovirus tools are essential for evaluating SUDV-specific countermeasures, particularly given the 2022 SUDV outbreak in Uganda that highlighted gaps in SUDV preparedness.
Yes. HA-SUDV and HA-EBOV (BHV20900042) can be used in parallel assays to evaluate cross-species neutralization potency of antibodies targeting conserved filovirus GP epitopes, or to confirm species-specific antibody responses.
BSL-2. HA-SUDV is a single-cycle pseudovirus that cannot produce infectious Sudan Virus. Standard BSL-2 precautions apply.
