Compound Overview
EFdA-TP is a potent nucleoside reverse transcriptase (RT) inhibitor that blocks RT-catalyzed DNA synthesis, acting as an effective immediate or delayed chain terminator (ICT or DCT). It inhibits HIV-1 RT through multiple mechanisms[1]. It has the molecular formula C12H15FN5O12P3 and a molecular weight of 533.19 g/mol.

In Vitro
RT-catalyzed DNA synthesis is inhibited by EFdA-TP (0.05-10 μM; for 15 min), which acts as either an ICT or a DCT[1]. As a translocation-defective RT inhibitor, EFdA-TP can block RT and markedly slow DNA synthesis, which makes it a de facto immediate chain terminator. EFdA-TP can also act as a delayed chain terminator, permitting incorporation of one more dNTP before DNA synthesis is blocked[1].
