Assay Principle
This sandwich ELISA quantifies human fatty acid-binding protein, intestinal (gene FABP2) in cell culture supernatants, cell lysates, serum and plasma (heparin, EDTA). Strips are pre-coated with a capture antibody. After the sample is added, a biotinylated detection antibody binds the captured protein, and an avidin–biotin–peroxidase complex supplies the enzyme. TMB develops color in proportion to the bound target; the reaction is stopped and read at 450 nm, and concentrations are read from the standard curve.
Intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (FABP2, I-FABP) is a small cytosolic protein in enterocytes of the small intestine. It binds long-chain fatty acids and is thought to support their uptake and packaging into triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. Because it leaks into blood when the gut lining is damaged, I-FABP is widely measured as a marker of intestinal epithelial injury.
