Ionomycin is a calcium ionophore commonly used to increase intracellular calcium concentrations in experimental models. It is more selective than A23187 and is frequently employed in neuroscience to study calcium signaling, synaptic plasticity, and cytokine production in neural and glial cells. Its ability to stimulate intracellular calcium flux makes it a critical reagent for dissecting calcium-dependent processes in neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation.
