Reactivity: Rabbit

What it means: This secondary antibody is designed to recognize rabbit primary antibodies (e.g., rabbit IgG). It binds to the primary antibody and enables detection through its conjugate (enzyme or fluorophore).

Why it matters: Choose “Rabbit” reactivity when your primary antibody is raised in rabbit. Note that in rabbit-derived samples, endogenous rabbit immunoglobulins may contribute to background in certain applications.

Host: Mouse

What it means: “Host” refers to the animal in which the secondary antibody was produced. Host: Mouse means the antibody was generated by immunizing a mouse, and the resulting mouse antibodies were collected and purified to make this secondary antibody.

Why it matters: The host species can affect background and cross-reactivity. For best results, avoid using a mouse-host secondary in workflows where mouse immunoglobulins are present (e.g., mouse tissues/serum, mouse serum-based blocking, or experiments involving mouse primary antibodies in the same assay), unless the protocol includes appropriate blocking and controls.

This secondary antibody is tagged with HRP so you can visualize/detect your target using an HRP substrate.

What it does: HRP acts as a reporter enzyme. After the secondary binds to your primary antibody, you add an HRP substrate (commonly TMB for ELISA or ECL chemiluminescent substrates for Western blot), and HRP catalyzes a reaction that produces a detectable signal (color or light).

Why it matters: HRP-conjugated secondaries are widely used because they give strong signal, are cost-effective, and work well for WB, ELISA, and IHC (with appropriate substrates).

Application(s): WB, IP

WB (Western Blot): Used as a secondary antibody to bind the primary antibody on membranes after SDS-PAGE transfer, enabling detection via enzyme- or fluorescent-based signal readout (depending on the conjugate).

IP (Immunoprecipitation): Used as a secondary antibody for detecting immunoprecipitated targets (e.g., on a Western blot), or for recognizing primary antibodies in IP workflows when paired with compatible capture reagents (such as Protein A/G or bead-based systems).

Isotype: Mouse IgG

What it means: This secondary antibody is a mouse-derived immunoglobulin G (IgG). In other words, it is an IgG antibody produced in mouse and purified for use as a secondary reagent.

Why it matters: “Mouse IgG” is mainly useful for understanding the species origin and antibody class of the secondary antibody:

• Species origin (mouse): This tells you the secondary itself is made in mouse. In mouse-derived samples (e.g., mouse tissues, mouse serum/plasma, or mouse cell lysates), mouse IgG can contribute to background because endogenous mouse immunoglobulins may be present. In these cases, consider additional blocking steps or a different secondary host/detection strategy when appropriate.
• Antibody class (IgG): IgG is the most commonly used antibody class and generally provides robust, consistent performance in routine detection workflows.
• Detection and capture compatibility: Many reagents are designed to bind IgG (e.g., anti-mouse IgG reagents and, in some workflows, Protein A/G). Knowing it is mouse IgG helps confirm compatibility when additional capture/detection steps are involved.
• Controls: If you are using anti-mouse detection reagents, “mouse IgG” can also help when selecting appropriate negative controls to evaluate non-specific binding from mouse-derived antibodies.
