Compound Overview
Lyngbyatoxin B is a complex compound produced through a versatile biosynthetic pathway in the marine cyanobacterium Moorea producens. Heterologous expression of this lyngbyatoxin biosynthetic pathway in Escherichia coli yielded lyngbyatoxin A (25.6 mg/L) together with its precursor indolactam-V (150 mg/L), confirming the biosynthetic route and providing a chemical basis for future pathway engineering. This successful E. coli production of lyngbyatoxin A also opens the possibility of heterologously expressing and characterizing other cyanobacterial natural products. It has the molecular formula C27H39N3O3 (MW 453.62).
