Cysteine is widely used as a reducing agent in in vitro experiments. In the body, abnormal cysteine levels are linked to several conditions: cancer, HIV infection, Huntington's disease and cardiovascular disease.
Kit Components
| Component | CYS200 |
|---|---|
| 100 x Dye R53 | 400 µl |
Enough for 200 samples in 96-well plates; cuvettes or 384-well plates may also be used.
Assay Principle
Cysteine increases the fluorescence of dye R53 at 535 nm (excitation 485 nm). Because cysteine oxidizes quickly in air or solution, samples are freshly prepared and read right after mixing with the dye; concentrations come from a linear standard curve.
