Compound Overview

Moreollic acid inhibits PTP1B; against human targets it shows an IC50 reading of 4.44 μM alongside a Ki value of 1.75 μM. It blocks progression of the cell cycle from G1 to S phase and inhibits tumor cell proliferation, and can be used in research on type 2 diabetes, obesity, colon cancer, and other cancers[1][2]. It has the molecular formula C34H40O9 and a molecular weight of 592.68 g/mol.

In Vitro

Moreollic acid (5 μM; 48 h) strongly inhibits the viability of HCT116 human colon cancer cells (inhibition rate of 83.86%), but shows only slight or no inhibition of A549, MDA-MB-231 and KYSE30 cancer cell viability[2]. In the human colon cancer cells HCT116, DLD1 and SW620, Moreollic acid (48 h) reduces viability with IC50 values of 1.71 μM, 1.44 μM and 1.49 μM, respectively, whereas the IC50 against normal NCM460 colonic epithelial cells is higher at 3.16 μM[2].

Cell Viability Assay[2]
