Compound Overview

N-Formyl-L-histidine, also known as Formyl-L-histidine, binds histidyl-tRNA synthetase with a Ki of 4.6 μM. It also competitively inhibits L-histidine ammonia-lyase, blocking the formation of urocanic acid from L-histidine with a Ki of 4.26 mM[1][2]. It is supplied as a white to off-white solid (C7H9N3O3, MW 183.16) at 99.89% purity.

Safety

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and not for human or veterinary use. Handle in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet and your institution's chemical hygiene plan.

In Vitro

SolventSolubilityNotes
DMSO10 mg/mL (54.60 mM)requires sonication and warming and heat to 60°C; use freshly opened DMSO (absorbed moisture lowers solubility)

Aliquot the stock solution and store it at -80°C (up to 6 months) or -20°C (up to 1 month); sealed storage, away from moisture; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
