Nickel and cobalt are essential metal ions. Enzymes such as methionine aminopeptidase and glucose isomerase can use cobalt, while bacterial and plant ureases need nickel as a cofactor.
Bacteria take up both ions through secondary transporters and ATP-binding cassette systems. Differences between these transporters may point to drug targets for gastritis and peptic ulcer.
Kit Components
| Component | NMA1000 |
|---|---|
| 100 x NMA dye | 300 µl |
Enough for 1000 assays in 384-well plates (30 µl sample) or 500 assays in 96-well plates (60 µl sample).
Assay Principle
The NMA dye binds nickel or cobalt ions, which lowers its fluorescence at 535 nm (excitation 485 nm). The Fo / Fc ratio is linear with metal ion concentration.
