Compound Overview

Nikkomycin Z is a nucleoside peptide and an orally active antifungal agent. It inhibits chitin synthesis by acting as a competitive analogue of the chitin synthase substrate UDP-N-acetylglucosamine, giving it antifungal activity[1][2][3]. It is supplied as a white to off-white solid (C20H25N5O10, MW 495.44) at 98.53% purity.

Safety

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and not for human or veterinary use. Handle in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet and your institution's chemical hygiene plan.

In Vitro

SolventSolubilityNotes
H2O100 mg/mL (201.84 mM)requires sonication

Aliquot the stock solution and store it at -80°C (up to 6 months) or -20°C (up to 1 month); avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

If water is used as the stock solvent, dilute to the working solution and sterilize it through a 0.22 μm filter before use.

Data provided by the manufacturer.

In Vitro

Nikkomycin Z (0.03-32 mg/L; 24 h) suppresses growth and biofilm formation of Candida albicans and Candida parapsilosis, and works better in combination with echinocandins such as Caspofungin and Micafungin[1].

In Vivo

In a murine model of Histoplasma capsulatum infection, Nikkomycin Z (Oral gavage; 20-100 mg/kg; twice a day; 10 days) lowers fungal burden and extends mouse survival[2].

Data provided by the manufacturer. Numbered citations refer to the Literature Cited list in the product description.
