Product Overview

Nipah virus (NiV) is a zoonotic RNA virus belonging to the genus Henipavirus of the family Paramyxoviridae, together with Hendra virus. It was first identified in 1998 in Nipah village, Malaysia. Nipah virus infection can cause a range of clinical manifestations, including asymptomatic infection, acute respiratory disease, and fatal encephalitis, with an estimated mortality rate of 40–75%. The virus poses a significant threat to both human and animal health. Therefore, the establishment of rapid and accurate detection methods is of great importance for Nipah virus research.

This kit uses a fluorescent PCR (qPCR) method to detect the presence of Nipah virus in samples. The kit contains primers specifically designed for the conserved region of the NiV P protein, HotStarTaq DNA Polymerase, and an optimized qPCR buffer system, which together enhance amplification efficiency and enable effective amplification of low-concentration templates. Each 20 µL reaction is cycled at 95°C for 30 sec, then 35–40 cycles of 95°C for 5 sec and 60°C for 30 sec, followed by melting curve analysis.

Q.How should the Nipah Virus Detection Kit be stored and how long is the shelf life?
A.The kit is stored at -20°C protected from light and the shelf life is one year. Transport is with ice packs or dry ice.
Q.What is included in the kit?
A.The kit contains 2× NiV qPCR Mix, Primer Mix, NiV Positive Control, ROX Reference Dye and RNase-free ddH₂O, supplied for 50 or 100 reactions.
Q.How is a reaction set up?
A.Each 20 µL reaction contains 10 µL qPCR Mix, 1 µL Primer Mix, 5 µL DNA template and 0.4 µL ROX Reference Dye, made up to 20 µL with ddH₂O. The ROX volume varies by instrument.
Q.Does the kit include a reverse transcription step?
A.No. The protocol starts from 5 µL of DNA template; the kit components are 2× NiV qPCR Mix, Primer Mix, NiV Positive Control, ROX Reference Dye and RNase-free ddH₂O, and the cycling program contains no reverse transcription step.
Q.What is the positive control used for?
A.A NiV Positive Control is included to confirm that the reaction and the instrument are performing correctly. No internal amplification control is supplied, so inhibition in an individual sample is not monitored.
Q.Is this product for research use only?
A.Yes. The manual states that the product is for research use only and not approved for clinical or in vitro diagnosis.
