Nocodazole is a microtubule-depolymerizing agent that disrupts cytoskeletal dynamics by inhibiting tubulin polymerization. In neuroscience, nocodazole is used to study axonal transport, neuronal morphology, and cell cycle regulation. Microtubule integrity is essential for neuronal function, and its disruption is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and ALS. Nocodazole helps elucidate the role of cytoskeletal organization in synaptic transmission, neurodevelopment, and neurodegeneration. Its application in cellular models provides insights into the mechanisms of neuronal injury and repair.
