Compound Overview
Oleuropein Aglycone, also known as 3,4-DHPEA-EA, is a polyphenol formed as the aglycone of oleuropein through enzymatic, acidic, or acetylated hydrolysis. Dietary intake at 50 mg/kg increases neuronal autophagic vesicle numbers, reverses the cognitive deficits seen in TgCRND8 transgenic mice modeling Alzheimer's disease, and lowers histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) levels in the cortex and hippocampus. In a rat model of high-fat diet-induced obesity, it raises UCP1 protein levels, interscapular brown adipose tissue epinephrine, and urinary norepinephrine, while lowering plasma leptin and total abdominal adipose tissue weight. It further lessens lipid peroxidation, IL-1β levels, and neutrophil infiltration in the lungs of mice with carrageenan-induced pleurisy. It is supplied as an off-white to light yellow oil (C19H22O8, MW 378.37) at 98.46% purity.

Safety
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and not for human or veterinary use. Handle in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet and your institution's chemical hygiene plan.
In Vitro
| Solvent | Solubility | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| DMSO | 50 mg/mL (132.15 mM) | requires sonication; use freshly opened DMSO (absorbed moisture lowers solubility) |
Aliquot the stock solution and store it at -80°C (up to 6 months) or -20°C (up to 1 month); sealed storage, away from moisture; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
