Compound Overview
Orotic acid potassium, also known as 6-Carboxyuracil potassium or Vitamin B13 potassium, is a precursor of pyrimidine bases involved in the synthesis of DNA and RNA. It stimulates the growth of animals, plants, and microorganisms, participates in carbohydrate metabolism, and is necessary for the growth and life activities of organisms. It also serves as a measurement indicator in routine newborn screening for urea cycle abnormalities and can cause hepatic steatosis and hepatomegaly in rats[1][2][3][4]. It is supplied as a white to off-white solid (C5H3KN2O4, MW 194.19) at 99.51% purity.

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and not for human or veterinary use. Handle in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet and your institution's chemical hygiene plan.
In Vitro
| Solvent | Solubility | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| H2O | 2 mg/mL (10.30 mM) | requires sonication and warming and heat to 60°C |
Aliquot the stock solution and store it at -80°C (up to 6 months) or -20°C (up to 1 month); sealed storage, away from moisture; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
If water is used as the stock solvent, dilute to the working solution and sterilize it through a 0.22 μm filter before use.
