Compound Overview
Peginterferon alfa-2b, also known as PegIFN a-2b, Sch 54031, Sylatron, or ViraferonPeg, is an immunomodulator. It is a recombinant alfa-2b interferon covalently linked to PEG, with antiviral activity against HCV, and it decreases viral DNA in HIV. It can be used in research on melanoma and hepatitis C[1][2]. It is supplied as a colorless to light yellow liquid (MW 31 kDa; PEG 12 kDa) at ≥99.0% purity.

Safety
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and not for human or veterinary use. Handle in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet and your institution's chemical hygiene plan.
In Vitro
Individuals who have cirrhosis from chronic hepatitis C and already have portal hypertension benefit from Peginterferon alfa-2b[1]. By upregulating melanocortin receptors on melanocytes, Peginterferon alfa-2b can induce melanogenesis, which causes the adverse reaction of tongue pigmentation[1].
