Scientific Background

AKT2 is a putative oncogene encoding a protein belonging to a subfamily of serine/threonine kinases containing SH2-like (Src homology 2-like) domains. AKT2 was shown to be amplified and overexpressed in 2 of 8 ovarian carcinoma cell lines and 2 of 15 primary ovarian tumors. Overexpression contributes to the malignant phenotype of a subset of human ductal pancreatic cancers. AKT serine/threonine kinase 2 is a general protein kinase capable of phophorylating several known proteins.

Alternative Names

AKT2; RAC-beta serine/threonine-protein kinase; Protein kinase Akt-2; Protein kinase B beta; PKB beta; RAC-PK-beta

What species does this antibody react with?
This antibody has been validated for reactivity against Human, Mouse, Rat. Actual cross-reactivity is determined by immunogen sequence homology across species. Contact technical support for unlisted species.
What applications has this antibody been validated for?
Validated applications include: Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), ELISA. Each application was tested with positive and negative controls. Contact our team regarding applications not listed.
How was this antibody produced and purified?
This polyclonal IgG antibody was raised in rabbit against a synthesized target-specific peptide. It was affinity-purified from antiserum using an epitope-specific immunogen, yielding a highly specific antibody suitable for multiple research applications.
What is the expected molecular weight of AKT2?
The predicted molecular weight of AKT2 is ~55.8 kDa. Band size may vary slightly depending on post-translational modifications and gel percentage.
What storage conditions does this antibody require?
Store at −20°C for long-term storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Working aliquots can be stored at 4°C for short-term use. The formulation includes 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant.
Is this antibody specific for the phosphorylated form of AKT2?
Yes. This antibody is designed to detect AKT2 only at the phosphorylation site specified in the product name. Lambda phosphatase treatment eliminates the signal, confirming phospho-specificity.
