Scientific Background

Catenin beta 1 encoded by CTNNB1 is part of a complex of proteins that constitute adherens junctions (AJs). AJs are necessary for the creation and maintenance of epithelial cell layers by regulating cell growth and adhesion between cells. Catenin beta 1 also anchors the actin cytoskeleton and may be responsible for transmitting the contact inhibition signal that causes cells to stop dividing once the epithelial sheet is complete. Finally, catenin beta 1 binds to the product of the APC gene, which is mutated in adenomatous polyposis of the colon. Mutations in CTNNB1 are a cause of colorectal cancer (CRC), pilomatrixoma (PTR), medulloblastoma (MDB), and ovarian cancer. Three transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for CTNNB1.

What species does this antibody react with?
This antibody has been validated for reactivity against Human, Mouse, Rat. Actual cross-reactivity is determined by immunogen sequence homology across species. Contact technical support for unlisted species.
What applications has this antibody been validated for?
Validated applications include: Western Blot (WB), ELISA. Each application was tested with positive and negative controls. Contact our team regarding applications not listed.
How was this antibody produced and purified?
This polyclonal IgG antibody was raised in rabbit against a synthesized target-specific peptide. It was affinity-purified from antiserum using an epitope-specific immunogen, yielding a highly specific antibody suitable for multiple research applications.
What is the expected molecular weight of CTNNB1?
The predicted molecular weight of CTNNB1 is ~85.5 kDa. Band size may vary slightly depending on post-translational modifications and gel percentage.
What storage conditions does this antibody require?
Store at −20°C for long-term storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Working aliquots can be stored at 4°C for short-term use. The formulation includes 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant.
Is this antibody specific for the phosphorylated form of CTNNB1?
Yes. This antibody is designed to detect CTNNB1 only at the phosphorylation site specified in the product name. Lambda phosphatase treatment eliminates the signal, confirming phospho-specificity.
