PJ-34 is a potent inhibitor of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), an enzyme involved in DNA repair and cell death pathways. In neuroscience, PJ-34 is used to study neuroprotection in models of ischemia, traumatic brain injury, and neurodegeneration. PARP overactivation leads to energy depletion and neuronal death, and PJ-34 mitigates this by preserving cellular NAD⁺ levels. Its anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects make it a valuable compound for exploring therapeutic strategies aimed at reducing neuronal damage and promoting recovery in neurodegenerative conditions.
