Compound Overview
Prostaglandin H2, also known as PGH2, is an endothelium-derived contracting factor that can cause vasoconstriction. It is the common precursor of all prostaglandins and is produced by various cells expressing cyclooxygenases. It can activate the PGD2 receptors CRTH2 and DP, either directly or after catalytic conversion to PGD2 by plasma proteins, and it can induce eosinophil migration and inhibit platelet aggregation. It can also accelerate formation of dimers and higher oligomers of amyloid β1-42, and it can be used for research on inflammation and neurological disease such as Alzheimer disease[1][2][3]. It is supplied as a colorless to light yellow liquid (C20H32O5, MW 352.47) at 99% purity.

In Vitro
Prostaglandin H2 (75 nM, 4 mins) raises the forward-scatter of eosinophils[1]. In eosinophils, Prostaglandin H2 (0-100 nM) induces shape changes and Ca2+ production[1]. Prostaglandin H2 (0-100 nM) drives migration and collagen-induced platelet aggregation in eosinophils[1]. Activation of CRTH2 receptors by Prostaglandin H2 (0-100 nM) inhibits eosinophil degranulation[1]. Prostaglandin H2 (45 μM, 3-24 h) speeds up the formation of dimers and higher oligomers of amyloid β1-42[2]. In rabbit pulmonary artery, Prostaglandin H2 (1-1000 nM) induces contraction, with an EC50 of 500 nM[3].
