Overview

• For fecal occult blood determination in human, mouse, rabbit, chicken, goat and pig feces samples. Sensitive. Allows detection of very low occult blood (e.g. 0.15mg hemoglobin/g in mouse) in feces samples. Convenient. No sophisticated. The assay uses Visual for signal readout. Compatible sample input includes Feces samples. Typical stated assay timing is 10 min.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Readout format: Visual supports plate-based signal acquisition and consistent comparison across matched samples.
  • Sample compatibility: The stated sample scope includes Feces samples, which is useful when aligning matrix type with calibration and control design.
  • Analytical range context: The supplied specifications include a stated detection limit of 0.15mg hemoglobin/g in mouse for interpreting low-signal samples.
  • Feature emphasis: Sensitive. Allows detection of very low occult blood (e.g. 0.15mg hemoglobin/g in mouse) in feces samples.

Additional feature notes highlight Convenient. No sophisticated laboratory equipment is required; Sample treatment and assay can be performed in under 15 minutes. Available format information for this listing includes 10 Tests.

Biological background

This product is centered on measurement of quantiquik fecal occult blood test strips within the matrices described for the assay. In practice, datasets from this type of format are typically interpreted by comparing relative signal, activity, or abundance across matched control and experimental groups rather than relying on a single value in isolation. Careful alignment of sample matrix, incubation window, and calibration strategy is important when comparing results across plates, operators, or study days.

More details

FECAL OCCULT BLOOD (FOB)represents hidden blood in feces. The presence of FOB indicates GI tract hemorrhage. GI tract hemorrhage is a common symptom of colorectal cancer and GI tract inflammation, among other health complications. Therefore, determining the presence of FOB in mammal feces sample is critical for health care. This product can be applied to mammals including humans, goats, dogs, rodents and birds. BioAssay Systems’ Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) provides a quick, simple, convenient and ultrasensitive method for detection of blood in feces samples through a red-ox indicator. As hemoglobin in the feces sample oxidizes the substrate, the red-ox indicator changes from light-brown to blue. The development of a blue color indicates the presence of blood in the sample. The intensity of the blue color correlates to the amount of occult blood in the sample.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Plate-based quantification and side-by-side group comparison remain central use cases for this assay format.
  • The description supports intervention-focused study designs in which researchers compare baseline and perturbed conditions.
  • Short assay timing and plate compatibility support time-course or repeated-measure collection plans when handling is kept consistent.

Common research applications

  • Screen quantiquik fecal occult blood test strips in feces samples using strip-based detection.
  • Compare threshold or presence-call outcomes across matched sample groups.
  • Monitor routine or field-collected batches with consistent collection timing.

Interpretation is usually strongest when signal changes are assessed alongside matrix-matched controls, replicate agreement, and the assay's stated analytical window.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Matrix composition, background signal, and sample handling can influence apparent response; compare like-with-like whenever possible.
  • Use appropriate blanks, controls, and replicate wells to distinguish biological differences from plate, reagent, or handling variability.
Can I quantify the amount Hemoglobin in the feces sample?

No, this test was designed to indicate if the feces sample contains blood or not.

My test strip turned to green color after a long term storage. Can this test strip be used for an experiment?

Yes, the test strip still can be applied to a Fecal Occult Blood Test. The presence of green color on the strip is caused by partial decomposition of redox indicator on the strip. However, we have tested that the test strip turned to green also can detect the presence of the blood at the detection limit.

I don’t have access to a homogenizer. How can I effectively homogenize the feces samples?

The feces sample can be homogenized with a tooth pick by vigorously shaking for 1 minute in the deionized water.
