Assay Principle

This sandwich ELISA quantifies rabbit protransforming growth factor alpha (gene TGFA) in cell culture supernatants, serum, plasma (heparin, EDTA) and rabbit milk. Strips are pre-coated with a capture antibody. After the sample is added, a biotinylated detection antibody binds the captured protein, and an avidin–biotin–peroxidase complex supplies the enzyme. TMB develops color in proportion to the bound target; the reaction is stopped and read at 450 nm, and concentrations are read from the standard curve.

Transforming growth factor alpha (TGFA) is an EGF-family growth factor made as a membrane-anchored precursor and released by ADAM17 cleavage. It binds and activates the EGF receptor to stimulate epithelial cell proliferation, and it is studied in development, wound healing and cancer.
