Compound Overview
(Rac)-sn-Glycerol 3-phosphate sodium, also known as DL-α-Glycerol phosphate sodium, is an A-site substrate analogue. When it is bound to the A-site, the rate of reaction of indole and nucleophilic indole analogues with E(A-A) is strongly inhibited[1]. It is supplied as a white to off-white solid (C3H7Na2O6P, MW 216.04) at 99.95% purity.

In Vitro
| Solvent | Solubility | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| H2O | 125 mg/mL (578.60 mM) | requires sonication |
Aliquot the stock solution and store it at -80°C (up to 6 months) or -20°C (up to 1 month); sealed storage, away from moisture; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
If water is used as the stock solvent, dilute to the working solution and sterilize it through a 0.22 μm filter before use.

In Vitro
Produced as an intermediate of glycolysis, (Rac)-sn-Glycerol 3-phosphate sodium is a glycerol derivative carrying a phosphate group[1]. Through allosteric inhibition, (Rac)-sn-Glycerol 3-phosphate sodium regulates tryptophan synthesis, and it does so by attaching to the α subunit of tryptophan synthase[1]. Microorganisms gain an advantage from (Rac)-sn-Glycerol 3-phosphate sodium where nutrients are scarce, since it supplies phosphorus, carbon and energy. Cultivation of microorganisms is one application of (Rac)-sn-Glycerol 3-phosphate sodium[2]. Metal ions are bound by (Rac)-sn-Glycerol 3-phosphate sodium, which leads to insoluble phosphate minerals. In situ bioremediation aimed at lowering environmental pollution is another application of (Rac)-sn-Glycerol 3-phosphate sodium[2].
