Product Overview
Recombinant Human FGF-7 (KGF) Protein is keratinocyte growth factor expressed in human cells and supplied as a glycosylated homodimer. It is tag-free, animal-free and xeno-free, and is lyophilized from a 0.2 µm-filtered PBS solution without carrier protein, with purity >95% by SDS-PAGE and endotoxin <0.5 EU/µg.
FGF-7 is an epithelium-selective growth factor that acts through FGFR2b. Typical research uses are keratinocyte and epithelial proliferation, organoid culture and staged endoderm differentiation, branching morphogenesis and epithelial repair models. Expression in human cells supports mammalian processing of the protein, and three peer-reviewed studies report use of this FGF-7.

Scientific Background
FGF-7, also called keratinocyte growth factor (KGF), is a fibroblast growth factor made mainly by mesenchymal cells. It acts as a paracrine signal on neighboring epithelial cells, primarily through the FGFR2b receptor isoform, and activates MAPK, PI3K–AKT and related pathways that support proliferation and survival.
FGF-7 research spans keratinocyte biology and epithelial repair, branching morphogenesis, development of the lung and pancreas, and organoid and staged endoderm differentiation models. The response depends on FGFR2b expression, developmental stage, matrix and companion signals.
Research Applications
FGF-7 is used wherever FGFR2b-positive epithelial cells need a paracrine growth or survival signal. The table shows typical placements; it is a planning guide, not a universal protocol.
| Application | Role of FGF-7 | Companion context | Suggested readouts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Epithelial proliferation | Direct FGFR2b stimulation | Defined serum context | Cell count, EdU/Ki-67, pERK and viability |
| Pancreatic / endoderm differentiation | Stage-specific support of epithelial progenitors | Activin A, retinoic acid and other protocol factors | PDX1, NKX6.1, organoid morphology |
| Branching morphogenesis | Paracrine epithelial growth signal | Matrix, with FGF10/EGF controls | Branch number, epithelial markers and FGFR2b |
| Repair models | Epithelial survival and proliferation | Injury model and time course | Closure, apoptosis, proliferation and barrier function |
Planning considerations
- Define the responsive cell stage and confirm FGFR2b expression or pathway competence before adding FGF-7.
- Begin with conditions from a validated protocol and titrate FGF-7 in the actual cells, medium and endpoint; no numerical EC50 is given for this product.
- Control timing and companion factors such as EGF, FGF-10 or Activin A, since signal order and duration can change the outcome.
- Include no-factor, vehicle and pathway-response controls, and measure phenotype and function rather than cell number alone.
