Product Overview
Recombinant Human HGF Protein is a tag-free, full-length human HGF expressed in human cells and supplied as a glycosylated monomer. It is produced in an animal-free, xeno-free format and lyophilized from a 0.2 µm-filtered PBS solution without carrier protein, with purity >95% by SDS-PAGE and endotoxin <0.5 EU/µg.
HGF is used in research on liver regeneration, wound healing through cell proliferation and migration, tumor growth and metastasis, and differentiation of stem cells into hepatocytes and other cell types. Its activity is confirmed by stimulation of 4MBr-5 monkey epithelial cell proliferation.
Expression system: Human cells · Tag-free · Animal-free
Scientific Background
HGF is a pleiotropic protein of the plasminogen subfamily of S1 peptidases. Produced by mesenchymal cells, it strongly stimulates the proliferation of mature hepatocytes and also acts as a growth factor for many other tissues and cell types. HGF signals through MET, a transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor.
Human HGF is secreted as an inactive single-chain propeptide of 728 amino acids (aa). It regulates proliferation, cell scattering, morphogenesis and survival, and is a key mitogen in liver regeneration, especially after partial hepatectomy and other liver injury.
Research Applications
Recombinant human HGF is a growth factor for regeneration, proliferation and differentiation research.
- Liver regeneration research, based on the strong mitogenic effect of HGF on hepatocytes.
- Wound-healing models driven by cell proliferation and migration.
- Cancer research on tumor growth and metastasis involving HGF.
- Differentiation of stem cells into hepatocytes and other cell types.
- Drug-discovery studies in liver disease and cancer.

Biological Activity & Quality Control
Biological activity is measured by the ability of the protein to stimulate proliferation of 4MBr-5, a monkey epithelial cell line.
Lot-specific activity and purity data are provided on the Certificate of Analysis (CoA), available from BioHippo on request.
Reconstitution
- Briefly centrifuge the vial before opening.
- Reconstitute in sterile PBS containing 0.1% endotoxin-free recombinant human serum albumin.
- Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles; a manual defrost freezer is recommended for storage.
