Product Overview
Recombinant Human IFN gamma Protein (IFN-γ) is a tag-free, full-length human IFN-γ expressed in human cells and supplied as a glycosylated dimer. It is produced in an animal-free, xeno-free format and lyophilized from a 0.2 µm-filtered PBS solution without carrier protein, with purity >95% by SDS-PAGE and endotoxin <0.5 EU/µg.
IFN-γ is used in research on innate and adaptive immunity, immunomodulation and immune-cell activation, cell signaling and immunotherapy. It is particularly suited to activating human CIK cells together with IL-2. Its activity is shown by STAT1 phosphorylation in human lung microvascular endothelial cells.

Scientific Background
Interferon gamma (IFN-γ) is a soluble, dimeric cytokine of the type II class of interferons. It is secreted by Th1 cells, cytotoxic T cells, NKT cells and NK cells.
By acting on antigen-presenting cells and on B and T lymphocytes that recognize antigen, IFN-γ shapes the antigen-specific stages of the immune response. It is critical for innate and adaptive immunity against viral, protozoal and bacterial infections.
Research Applications
Recombinant human IFN-γ is an immunomodulatory cytokine for immunology and cell-signaling research.
- Immunomodulation studies, including activation of immune cells.
- Activation of human CIK cells in combination with IL-2.
- Research on immune responses and cell signaling pathways.
- Immunotherapy research.

Biological Activity & Quality Control
Biological activity is shown by stimulation of STAT1 phosphorylation in human lung microvascular endothelial cells (HLMVECs). Cells were serum-starved overnight in EBM-2 medium containing 2% FBS, treated with IFN-γ at 0.5 to 500 ng/mL for 5 minutes, and phosphorylated STAT1 (Tyr701) was detected by Western blot with a phospho-STAT1 antibody.
Lot-specific activity and purity data are provided on the Certificate of Analysis (CoA), available from BioHippo on request.
Reconstitution
- Briefly centrifuge the vial before opening.
- Reconstitute in sterile PBS containing 0.1% endotoxin-free recombinant human serum albumin.
- Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles; a manual defrost freezer is recommended for storage.
Storage & Shipping
| Storage | As supplied: −20°C to −80°C for up to 12 months from receipt. After reconstitution: 2°C to 8°C for up to 1 month, or −20°C to −80°C for up to 3 months, under sterile conditions. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles. |
