Product Overview
Recombinant Human IL-1 beta Protein (IL-1β) is a tag-free, full-length human IL-1β expressed in human cells as a glycosylated protein. It is produced in an animal-free, xeno-free format and lyophilized from a 0.2 µm-filtered PBS solution without carrier protein, with purity >95% by SDS-PAGE and endotoxin <0.5 EU/µg.
IL-1β is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine used to study inflammation, activation of immune cells such as T cells and macrophages, tissue repair, cell signaling pathways and the pathogenesis of inflammatory disease. Its activity is confirmed by stimulation of mouse D10S cell proliferation.
Expression system: Human cells · Tag-free · Animal-free
Scientific Background
IL-1 comprises two pleiotropic cytokines, IL-1α and IL-1β, which bind the same receptor and have similar, if not identical, biological properties. IL-1β is a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced by many cell types, including monocytes, tissue macrophages, keratinocytes and other epithelial cells.
Their activities include stimulation of thymocyte proliferation by inducing IL-2 release, B-cell maturation and proliferation, and fibroblast growth factor activity.
Research Applications
Recombinant human IL-1β is a pro-inflammatory cytokine for immunology and inflammation research.
- Inflammation research, including the pathogenesis of inflammatory disease.
- Immune-response studies, including activation of T cells and macrophages.
- Tissue repair and regeneration research.
- Studies of cell signaling pathways.
- Drug-discovery studies in inflammatory disease.

Biological Activity & Quality Control
Biological activity is measured by the ability of the protein to stimulate proliferation of mouse D10S cells.
Lot-specific activity and purity data are provided on the Certificate of Analysis (CoA), available from BioHippo on request.
Reconstitution
- Briefly centrifuge the vial before opening.
- Reconstitute in sterile PBS containing 0.1% endotoxin-free recombinant human serum albumin.
- Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles; a manual defrost freezer is recommended for storage.
