Product Overview
Recombinant Human IL-12 Protein is a tag-free, glycosylated heterodimer expressed in human cells. It is made in an animal-free, xeno-free format and supplied lyophilized from a 0.2 µm-filtered PBS solution without carrier protein, with purity >95% by SDS-PAGE and endotoxin <0.5 EU/µg.
IL-12 is a strong immunostimulatory cytokine used in cancer immunotherapy and vaccine-adjuvant research and to study immune responses and signaling pathways, particularly T-cell activation and differentiation. Publications cited by the manufacturer cover immunotherapy, T cells, NK cells, DC-CIK and CAR-T cell expansion. The manufacturer expresses this human protein in human cells, with extremely low endotoxin and high purity.
Expression system: Human cells · Tag-free · Animal-free
Scientific Background
IL-12 (p70) consists of two disulfide-linked subunits, p35 and p40, each encoded by its own gene. It is produced mainly by macrophages and B lymphocytes.
IL-12 acts as a growth factor for activated T and NK cells, increases the lytic activity of NK and lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells, and stimulates IFN-γ production by resting PBMC.
Research Applications
IL-12 is used mainly in immunotherapy and immune-response research; the main research areas are listed below.
- Immunotherapy research: IL-12 in anti-tumor and antiviral immune responses.
- Cancer immunology research: IL-12-driven immune responses against tumor cells.
- Vaccine research: studies of IL-12 as a vaccine adjuvant.
- Basic research: immune responses and cell signaling, particularly T-cell activation and differentiation.
- Immune-cell expansion: cited publications cover T cells, NK cells, DC-CIK and CAR-T cell expansion.

Biological Activity & Quality Control
Biological activity is measured by the ability of the protein to stimulate proliferation of PHA-transformed human peripheral blood lymphoblasts.
Lot-specific activity and purity data are provided on the Certificate of Analysis (CoA), available from BioHippo on request.
Reconstitution
- Briefly centrifuge the vial before opening.
- Reconstitute in sterile PBS containing 0.1% endotoxin-free recombinant human serum albumin.
- Store the reconstituted protein under sterile conditions at 2°C to 8°C for up to 1 month, or at −20°C to −80°C for up to 3 months.
- Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles; a manual-defrost freezer is recommended.
Storage & Shipping
| Storage | As supplied: −20°C to −80°C for up to 12 months from receipt. After reconstitution: 2°C to 8°C for up to 1 month, or −20°C to −80°C for up to 3 months, under sterile conditions. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles. |
