Product Overview
Recombinant Human OSM Protein (oncostatin M) is a tag-free, full-length human OSM expressed in human cells as a glycosylated protein. It is produced in an animal-free, xeno-free format and lyophilized from a 0.2 µm-filtered PBS solution without carrier protein, with purity >95% by SDS-PAGE and endotoxin <0.5 EU/µg.
OSM is used to study inflammation and immune responses, hematopoiesis including myeloid differentiation, neuroprotection and neuronal survival, and cancer biology, where it can promote or suppress tumor growth depending on context. Its activity is confirmed by stimulation of TF-1 cell proliferation.
Expression system: Human cells · Tag-free · Animal-free
Scientific Background
Oncostatin M (OSM) is a 30 kDa secreted cytokine of the interleukin 6 (IL-6) family. It inhibits the proliferation of several tumor cell lines, yet stimulates proliferation of AIDS-KS cells.
OSM regulates cytokine production by endothelial cells, including IL-6, G-CSF and GM-CSF, and has important roles in inflammation, neuroprotection, hematopoiesis, metabolism and development.
Research Applications
Recombinant human OSM is a versatile cytokine for immunology, hematopoiesis and cancer-biology research.
- Inflammation research, including regulation of other inflammatory cytokines.
- Hematopoiesis studies, particularly differentiation of myeloid cells.
- Neuroprotection and neuronal-survival research.
- Cancer biology, where OSM can promote or suppress tumor growth depending on context.
- Drug-discovery studies in inflammatory disease and cancer.

Biological Activity & Quality Control
Biological activity is measured by the ability of the protein to stimulate proliferation of human TF-1 cells, an erythroleukemic indicator cell line.
Lot-specific activity and purity data are provided on the Certificate of Analysis (CoA), available from BioHippo on request.
Reconstitution
- Briefly centrifuge the vial before opening.
- Reconstitute in sterile PBS containing 0.1% endotoxin-free recombinant human serum albumin.
- Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles; a manual defrost freezer is recommended for storage.
