Product Overview
Recombinant Human TNF alpha Protein (TNF-α) is a tag-free, full-length human TNF-α expressed in human cells and supplied as a glycosylated homotrimer. It is produced in an animal-free, xeno-free format and lyophilized from a 0.2 µm-filtered PBS solution without carrier protein, with purity >95% by SDS-PAGE and endotoxin <0.5 EU/µg.
TNF-α is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine used to study inflammation, activation of immune cells and cell death, particularly of tumor cells. Its activity is confirmed by cytotoxicity toward L-929 cells in the presence of actinomycin D.
Expression system: Human cells · Tag-free · Animal-free
Scientific Background
Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) signals through the receptors TNFRSF1A (TNFR1) and TNFRSF1B. It is secreted mainly by macrophages and is also produced by monocytes, keratinocytes and various tumor cells.
TNF-α induces fever, either directly or through release of interleukin-1, and has been linked to cachexia. Under certain conditions it can stimulate cell proliferation and induce differentiation, and it can impair regulatory T cell (Treg) function in rheumatoid arthritis through FOXP3 dephosphorylation.
Research Applications
Recombinant human TNF-α is a pro-inflammatory cytokine for immunology and cell-death research.
- Inflammation research on pro-inflammatory signaling.
- Immune-response studies, including activation of immune cells.
- Cell-death research, particularly in tumor cells.
- Drug-discovery studies in inflammatory disease and cancer.
