Product Overview
Recombinant MACV Glycoprotein G1 Protein, C-His is a recombinant glycoprotein G1 of Machupo virus, expressed in mammalian cells with a C-His tag. The manufacturer gives the expressed range as Glu87-Leu261 and a predicted molecular weight of 23.13 kDa. It is supplied lyophilized at >90% purity as determined by SDS-PAGE.
The manufacturer lists ELISA, use as an immunogen, SDS-PAGE and Western blot as applications. Bioactivity testing is stated by the manufacturer as in progress, so no functional activity data are provided for this product.
Expression system: Mammalian Cells · Tag: C-His
Background
Machupo virus (MACV) is a mammarenavirus and the agent of Bolivian haemorrhagic fever. Its genome is divided between two ambisense RNA segments: the S segment encodes the nucleoprotein and the glycoprotein precursor, and the L segment encodes the polymerase and the Z protein. Recombinant MACV proteins are used as coating antigens in ELISA, as immunogens for antibody production, and as reference material in SDS-PAGE and Western blot.
Arenaviruses make their surface glycoproteins as a single precursor that is cut into a stable signal peptide and two subunits, G1 and G2. G1 sits on the outside of the particle and carries the receptor-binding function, while G2 is the transmembrane subunit that drives membrane fusion. Both subunits are produced separately as recombinant antigens for binding assays, antibody screening and immunisation.
About the Construct
The expressed range is given by the manufacturer as Glu87-Leu261, and the manufacturer cites RefSeq accession NP_899212.1, a glycoprotein precursor entry. The residue numbers refer to that entry, so compare them against the accession rather than against the protein counted from its own first residue. The C-His tag is added outside the stated range.

Reconstitution
Reconstitute in sterile water for a stock solution. Adjust the volume of sterile water so that, after reconstitution, the final stock concentration matches the value indicated on the product label or datasheet.
Reconstitution protocol
- Let the product and the reconstitution diluent reach room temperature.
- Tap or briefly centrifuge the vial before opening to bring down any lyophilized material on the wall or cap.
- Use the diluent and stock concentration recommended in the product datasheet. If you need a stock concentration higher than recommended, contact us.
- After adding the diluent, re-cap the vial and invert gently by hand, or place it on a slow rocking platform, so the diluent coats all inner surfaces. Do not mix by vortexing or by pipetting up and down.
- Let the vial sit at room temperature with gentle agitation for at least 15 minutes before aliquoting or use.
- Store the reconstituted material in single-use aliquots in polypropylene or siliconized tubes. Aliquots of 10 μL or larger are recommended.
Storage & Shipping
| Stability and storage | Use a manual defrost freezer and avoid repeated freeze thaw cycles. Store at 2 to 8°C for frequent use. Store at -20 to -80°C for twelve months from the date of receipt. |
|---|---|
| Shipping | In general, proteins are provided as lyophilized powder/frozen liquid. They are shipped out with dry ice/blue ice unless customers require otherwise. |
Safety & Handling
Handle as a laboratory reagent and consult the linked SDS before use. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the reconstituted protein.
