SB431542 is a selective inhibitor of the TGF-β type I receptor ALK5, as well as ALK4 and ALK7. TGF-β signaling plays a complex role in neuroinflammation, neurogenesis, and synaptic plasticity. In neurodegenerative disease models, SB431542 has been used to modulate glial activation and to investigate the role of TGF-β in neuronal survival and repair. Its application in stem cell research also supports its relevance in regenerative neuroscience.
