SGI-1027 is a small-molecule inhibitor of DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs), including DNMT1, DNMT3A, and DNMT3B. It interferes with epigenetic regulation by blocking DNA methylation, thereby reactivating silenced genes. In neurodegenerative disease research, SGI-1027 is of interest for its potential to modulate gene expression patterns associated with neuronal survival, synaptic plasticity, and neuroinflammation. Epigenetic dysregulation is a hallmark of several CNS disorders, and DNMT inhibitors like SGI-1027 may offer therapeutic avenues for restoring normal gene function.
