Product Overview

This product is suitable for the isolation of total DNA from 180–220 mg of fresh or frozen soil. Once the sample has been lysed, the genomic DNA of the organisms present in the soil, including animal, plant, viral, bacterial and parasite DNA, binds to the nucleic acid purification column. Degraded proteins and PCR inhibitors are filtered out. After washing with Wash Buffer and Solution RP, the genomic DNA is eluted with Elution Buffer and can be used in downstream molecular biology experiments.

The protocol takes 180–220 mg of soil through lysis at 95°C for 5 min, clarification and column binding, washing and elution in 50–200 µL, with the elution centrifuged at 12,000 rpm.

Q.How should the Soil Genomic DNA Extraction Kit be stored and how long is the shelf life?
A.All components are stored at room temperature for 1 year, except Proteinase K, which is stored at -20°C for 1 year.
Q.What is included in the kit?
A.Each kit supplies Solutions SGE, InR, GA2 and RP, Wash Buffer, Elution Buffer, Proteinase K and G columns, in 50 T and 200 T sizes. The 50 T kit contains 80 mL of Solution SGE, 70 mL of Wash Buffer, 525 µL of Proteinase K and 50 columns.
Q.How much soil does the kit process per preparation?
A.The kit isolates total DNA from 180 to 220 mg of fresh or frozen soil. The genomic DNA of the organisms present in the soil, including animal, plant, viral, bacterial and parasite DNA, is recovered.
Q.How should soil samples be stored before extraction?
A.Freshly collected soil samples should be stored at -20°C or lower without delay. Storage at room temperature causes DNA degradation within hours.
Q.What elution volume is used?
A.The column is eluted in 50–200 µL. The elution step is centrifuged at 12,000 rpm.
Q.Is this product for research use only?
A.Yes. The manual states that the product is for research use only.
