Compound Overview
Streptomycin, also known as Agrept, Agrimycin, or Streptomycin A, is an effective antibiotic against M. tuberculosis and can be used for tuberculosis (TB) research. It is also a bactericidal agent that can be used to study a number of bacterial infections. It can bind strongly to nucleic acids and interferes with and blocks protein synthesis while permitting continued RNA and DNA synthesis. As a common antibiotic used in culture media, it also blocks stretch-activated and mechanosensitive ion channels in neurons and cardiac myocytes[1][2][3]. It is supplied as a white to off-white solid (C21H39N7O12, MW 581.57) at 99.91% purity.

| H2O | 125 mg/mL (214.94 mM) | requires sonication |
Aliquot the stock solution and store it at -80°C (up to 6 months) or -20°C (up to 1 month); avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
If water is used as the stock solvent, dilute to the working solution and sterilize it through a 0.22 μm filter before use.
