Species Human
SW756 is a human cervical carcinoma cell line derived from a primary squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix in an adult female. It was included in early comprehensive cell line characterization efforts and has been validated as free from HeLa contamination based on glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) isoenzyme typing, which confirmed it to be type B, unlike HeLa cells, which are type A. This ensures its authenticity as a distinct cervical cancer model. SW756 is classified as a squamous cell carcinoma and has been used in various genomic and proteomic profiling studies, including large-scale pharmacogenomic and functional genomics datasets. In proteomic profiling efforts such as the ProCan-DepMapSanger dataset, SW756 contributes to a broader understanding of protein expression regulation, particularly in relation to post-transcriptional modifications and drug response correlations. Such datasets have shown that proteomic data from SW756, like other cell lines, can reveal patterns of lineage-specific expression and regulatory mechanisms that are not always evident at the transcriptomic level, highlighting its utility in integrated multi-omic analyses.
