Triacsin C is a potent inhibitor of long-chain fatty acyl-CoA synthetase, an enzyme involved in lipid metabolism. By blocking the synthesis of triglycerides, diglycerides, and cholesterol esters, Triacsin C disrupts lipid signaling pathways implicated in neurodegeneration. It has been shown to prevent beta-cell apoptosis and exhibits vasodilatory properties. In the context of neuroscience, Triacsin C is used to study the role of lipid metabolism in neuronal survival, inflammation, and synaptic function, particularly in diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Classification: Harmful. May be harmful if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through skin.
