EGFR, alsonamedasERBB1, isacell-surface receptor formembersof the epidermal growth factor family (EGF-family) of extracellular protein ligands. Bindingof theprotein toa ligand induces receptor dimerizationand tyrosine autophosphorylationand leadstocellproliferation.EGFRplaysacritical rolein cancer development and progression, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, and metastatic spread. Ligand binding results in receptor dimerization, autophosphorylation, activation of downstream signaling, internalization, and lysosomal degradation. Phosphorylation of EGF receptor (EGFR) is implicated inmany functions, includingmaintaining theactivestate enzyme, providingabindingsurface for substrateproteins, createsamajor dockingsitefor theadaptorprotein.EGFRS1166phosphorylationinducedbya combinationof EGFand gefitinib has a potentially negative impact on lung cancercellgrowth
