Valnemulin is an orally active, broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, anaerobic bacteria, Mycoplasma, and Spirochetes. It ameliorates enteric diseases, acute polyarthritis, and enzootic pneumonia in pigs[1], and it exhibits anti-inflammatory efficacy against lipopolysaccharide-induced lung injury[2]. In Vitro
Against Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and Mycoplasma hyosynoviae, Valnemulin displays antimicrobial efficacy, with MIC90s of 0.0005 μg/mL and 0.0001 to 0.00025 μg/mL, respectively[1].
In Vivo
In BALB/c mice with LPS-induced acute lung injury, Valnemulin (100 mg/kg, i.g., single dose) shows lung protective effects[2]. Valnemulin hydrochloride (10 mg/kg, p.o.; 10 days) has a control effect on experimental Mycoplasma bovis infection in calves and can effectively eliminate Mycobacterium bovis from the lungs[3].
