Vildagliptin is a potent inhibitor of dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV), an enzyme responsible for degrading glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). By delaying GLP-1 degradation, Vildagliptin enhances insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon release, thereby improving glycemic control. In neurodegenerative disease research, Vildagliptin has shown promise in ameliorating cognitive deficits in models of Alzheimer’s disease. It also exhibits protective effects on pancreatic β-cells by reducing endoplasmic reticulum stress.
