Compound Overview
XuBP is a Rubisco inhibitor with a Ki of approximately 1.3 μM. It binds to uncarbamylated Rubisco to form an inactive complex, and it also acts as a substrate for Rubisco, undergoing a slow carboxylation reaction to produce two molecules of 3-phosphoglycerate[1]. It has a molecular formula of C5H12O11P2 and a molecular weight of 310.09 g/mol.

In Vitro
XuBP is a potent competitive inhibitor of Rhodobacter sphaeroides ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco), with a Ki of approximately 1.3 μM[1]. Carbamylation-free Rhodobacter sphaeroides Rubisco bound to XuBP (30 μM) can fully refold only when treated simultaneously with Rubisco activase, ATP, and RsCbbY, because RsCbbY can hydrolyze and release XuBP, preventing its re-inhibition[1]. XuBP is the preferred substrate of CbbY from both Rhodobacter sphaeroides and Arabidopsis thaliana[1].
