ZPCK (SL-01) is a small molecule that inhibits the p53-MDM2 interaction at micromolar concentrations (20 µM). It has also been shown to inhibit bovine chymotrypsin A-y, indicating potential protease inhibitory activity. By disrupting the p53-MDM2 axis, ZPCK may stabilize p53 and promote its transcriptional activity, which is relevant in both cancer biology and neurodegenerative disease models. In the nervous system, p53 plays a dual role in regulating apoptosis and neuronal survival, making ZPCK a candidate for probing p53-mediated pathways in neurodegeneration.
