Overview

What is 8 Chambered Cover Glass?

Consumables

Product Overview

The Cellvis 8-well chambered cover glass is offered on a 57 x 25 mm base or a 75 x 25 mm standard base. Coverslip choices are #1 cover glass (0.13-0.16 mm, 57 x 25 mm base only), #1.5 high performance cover glass (0.170 ± 0.005 mm) and a tissue culture treated #1.5 glass-like polymer coverslip (0.175 ± 0.010 mm). All formats are supplied with a lid and are intended for high resolution imaging, for example confocal microscopy.

Cellvis describes the polymer coverslip as giving better cell attachment than cover glass.

Key Features

  • Suitable for long-term tissue culture
  • Manufactured in a class 100,000 clean room
  • Frame made from virgin polystyrene
  • Glass formats: high optical quality German cover glass; the #1.5 high performance cover glass is 0.170 ± 0.005 mm thick
  • Polymer formats: tissue culture treated #1.5 glass-like polymer coverslip (0.175 ± 0.010 mm) for better cell attachment
  • Coverslip bonded to the frame with a USP class VI adhesive
  • Sterilized by gamma radiation
  • Supplied with lid

Imaging Compatibility

Cellvis lists the glass formats (C8-1-N, C8-1.5H-N, C8SB-1.5H) as suitable for all of the techniques below. The polymer formats (C8-1.5P, C8SB-1.5P) are listed for the same techniques except Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF), for which they are not suitable.

  • Differential Interference Contrast (DIC)
  • Widefield Fluorescence
  • Confocal Microscopy
  • Two-Photon and Multiphoton Microscopy
  • Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching (FRAP)
  • Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET)
  • Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy (FLIM)
  • Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF)
  • Super-Resolution Microscopy

Cellvis recommends C8-1.5H-N and C8SB-1.5H for confocal microscopy and super-resolution microscopy, and C8-1.5P and C8SB-1.5P for confocal microscopy.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the five formats?

They differ in coverslip and base size. C8-1-N (#1 cover glass), C8-1.5H-N (#1.5 high performance cover glass) and C8-1.5P (#1.5 glass-like polymer) have a 57 x 25 mm base. C8SB-1.5H (#1.5 high performance cover glass) and C8SB-1.5P (#1.5 glass-like polymer) have a 75 x 25 mm standard base.

When should a polymer coverslip format be chosen?

Cellvis describes the tissue culture treated polymer coverslip (C8-1.5P, C8SB-1.5P) as giving better cell attachment than cover glass. These formats are not suitable for Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF).

How thick are the coverslips?

The #1 cover glass is 0.13-0.16 mm, the #1.5 high performance cover glass is 0.170 ± 0.005 mm and the #1.5 glass-like polymer coverslip is 0.175 ± 0.010 mm.

Is it sterilized?

Yes. All five formats are sterilized by gamma radiation and supplied with a lid.

How many pieces are in a case?

48 per case.
