Product Overview
MCF10A is an immortalized human mammary epithelial line that is not tumorigenic and holds on to much of what characterizes normal mammary epithelium. Its cells carry epithelial markers — sialomucins, cytokeratins, and milk fat globule antigens among them. Placed in collagen matrices they grow in three dimensions; at confluence they throw up dome-like structures, a sign of their capacity to differentiate along epithelial lines.
Neither terminal differentiation nor cellular senescence has been seen in them so far under standard culture conditions. Insulin, glucocorticoids, cholera toxin, and epidermal growth factor (EGF) all elicit a response from the line, while electron microscopy of cell ultrastructure points to luminal ductal epithelial character rather than a myoepithelial one. GenJet™ DNA In Vitro Transfection Reagent for MCF10A Cells is tuned in advance to move plasmid DNA into this non-tumorigenic line efficiently: the formulation rests on SignaGen's proprietary transfection booster conjugation technology and, under optimized conditions, reaches up to 50% GFP-positive cells.
